Organisers say the annual event is designed to promote Malawi’s creative industry and cultural tourism.

In a statement, the regulator said the collaboration provides an opportunity to reach diverse audiences through cultural and community platforms while raising awareness about safe gaming practices and regulatory standards. The authority has reportedly contributed MK5m (€2,462.58) toward the 2026 edition of the festival.

MAGLA noted that its participation will include educational outreach, stakeholder interaction and information campaigns aimed at encouraging informed decision-making among players.

The Authority also indicated that it will work with festival organisers to ensure compliance with regulations governing gaming-related promotions and sponsorships during the event. This includes oversight of any branded activities linked to licensed operators participating in the festival.

Officials added that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve visibility of the regulator’s role and strengthen collaboration with community stakeholders beyond traditional enforcement channels. In recent months, the regulator has implemented measures to reduce minors’ exposure to gambling and tighten compliance requirements for operators. It has also leveraged public events and sponsorships to promote responsible gambling messages and reinforce age restrictions.

   See also:

See also: Malawi appoints new MAGLA Director General

The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) has partnered with the Zomba City Festival 2026 to bolster public engagement and promote responsible gaming awareness.
