During the meeting, stakeholders examined key race-day operational issues, including owner access to winning horses, restrictions on the weighing room and proposed amendments to the existing racing framework.

The regulator said the committee is part of a wider push to improve engagement between racing stakeholders while ensuring integrity standards remain firmly in place across the industry. “This initiative has helped cultivate dialogue between the regulator and operators, while generating constructive exchanges for the advancement of racing,” said the GRA.

The latest step follows the GRA’s formal consultation on the Rules of Racing launched earlier this month, as Mauritius finalises preparations for the 2026 racing calendar.

Season integrity confidence builds

The 2026 horse racing season officially begins on April 25, with 27 race meetings scheduled through to December at Champ de Mars Racecourse, the country’s flagship horse racing venue. With all systems set for the new season and horse racing closely linked to Mauritius’ regulated Pari-mutuel betting market, stronger oversight of race-day operations is expected to improve confidence across the wider licensed betting sector.

At the centre of the discussions was confirmation that a dedicated Rules Committee will soon be created to assess requests for amendments to the Rules of Racing. The committee will include three HRID officers, one representative from the Trainers’ Association, one from the Jockeys’ Association and one representative from the race organiser.

For the regulator, the objective is clear: stronger governance, tighter operational controls and greater confidence across one of Mauritius’ most closely watched regulated sectors. The GRA said it had taken note of the proposals raised by trainers and would assess them internally before moving forward with formal revisions.

As racing returns, the GRA is placing greater emphasis on accountability, operational control and long-term sustainability, making the new Rules Committee a significant next step in protecting confidence across Mauritius’ regulated horse racing sector.

   See also:

See also: Mauritius strengthens horse racing betting integrity with British expert Mark Blackman

The Gambling Regulatory Authority says the new body will tighten oversight, improve transparency and reinforce confidence across Mauritius’ regulated horse racing sector as the 2026 season opens.

[60013,60019
935
post-23449","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-east-africa","category-regulation-news","tag-horse-racing
["GET
