Officials confirmed that the machines were previously confiscated during compliance inspections and raids conducted in various parts of Limpopo.

According to provincial authorities, the destroyed machines were operating outside the framework of the Limpopo Gambling Act, which governs licensing, compliance and operational standards for gambling activities in the province. Unlicensed machines are considered a risk due to the absence of regulatory oversight, consumer protection measures and age restrictions.

The Limpopo Gambling Board stated that illegal gambling operations reduce government tax revenue and undermine licensed operators who comply with regulatory costs and standards. In South Africa’s regulated gambling market, licensed operators are required to adhere to strict rules, including responsible gambling measures and contributions to provincial revenues.

Law enforcement agencies have increased joint operations with regulators in recent years, focusing on identifying illegal slot-style machines in shops, taverns and other informal locations. Authorities say many of these machines are imported or modified to bypass regulatory approval processes.

Officials also highlighted concerns about access by minors and vulnerable groups. Without licensing controls, illegal operators are not subject to enforcement of age verification or responsible gambling protocols.

The destruction of the machines reflects ongoing enforcement efforts rather than a single isolated operation. The provincial government indicated that inspections and seizures will continue, alongside legal action against operators found in violation of gambling laws.

   See also:

See also: Namibia’s Gambling Board boosts industry access with new enquiry booth

According to provincial authorities, the destroyed machines were operating outside the framework of the Limpopo Gambling Act.

[60019,60011
73
post-23394","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-regulation-news","category-south-africa","tag-illegal-gambling
["GET
