The exercise focused on unlicensed operators as well as individuals involved in the supply and manufacture of gaming machines linked to the spread of illegal gambling devices across parts of Uganda.

Authorities said the operation followed concerns over the increasing presence of unregulated gaming machines in rural trading centres and villages. These machines, according to regulators, are often installed outside approved gambling premises and operate without licensing approval from the board.

The NLGRB noted that illegal gaming activities have grown partly due to weak compliance with licensing requirements and the circulation of unauthorised equipment through informal supply chains. Officials added that such operations deprive the government of revenue and expose users to gambling environments that are not monitored for fairness, age restrictions or responsible gaming standards.

The Uganda Police Force supported the operation through coordinated inspections and arrests carried out in multiple locations. While the exact number of suspects has not been disclosed, authorities confirmed that both operators and suppliers are under investigation for breaches of gaming regulations.

The crackdown is part of a broader enforcement strategy aimed at cleaning up the gambling sector, improving compliance and protecting consumers. Licensed operators have been reminded to ensure all gaming machines in use are certified and registered with the NLGRB.

Illegal gambling remains a challenge in expanding markets where demand for betting services is rising faster than regulatory enforcement capacity. Unlicensed machines often operate in informal settings where oversight is minimal, making enforcement actions necessary to maintain order in the sector.

The NLGRB indicated that surveillance and inspections will continue across the country, with a focus on identifying illegal equipment and shutting down non-compliant operations. Authorities also urged members of the public to report suspected illegal gaming activity to support ongoing regulatory efforts.

   See also:

See also: Ugandan gambling regulator confiscates 104 illegal gaming machines in new enforcement drive

The operation followed concerns over the increasing presence of unregulated gaming machines in rural trading centres and villages.

[60013,60019
60378,1338,73
post-23309","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-east-africa","category-regulation-news","tag-enforcement","tag-gaming-regulation","tag-illegal-gambling
["GET
