Tanzania.- The Gaming Board of Tanzania<\/strong> (GBT) has reaffirmed its suspension on new slot machine and route operation licences, keeping new applicants temporarily out of the market as authorities advance stronger compliance controls through a national Electronic Monitoring System<\/strong> (EMS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an official notice dated April 10 2026, GBT said the temporary halt remains in place for new applicants seeking slot machine and route operation licences, citing \u201cgrowing regulatory challenges<\/strong>\u201d and the need to finalise the Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) framework for the segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move is set to support stronger long-term sustainability in Tanzania\u2019s land-based gaming sector, particularly in route operations involving slot machine placements outside traditional casino environments<\/strong>, by improving oversight, revenue reporting, taxation compliance and anti-fraud controls through real-time monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the April 2026 notice may appear to signal a new policy shift, the suspension was first introduced in February 2023, making the latest publication a formal reaffirmation<\/strong> that the freeze remains in force rather than a fresh regulatory intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gambling sector strengthened <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Existing licensed operators were not specifically identified as being affected, with the restriction focused on new market entrants<\/strong> applying for slot machine and route operation licences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
