Stakeholder consultations explore proposed updates to Namibia\u2019s gaming regulations aimed at supporting industry growth, job creation and a more transparent gambling market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Namibia.- Namibia is consulting stakeholders on proposed amendments to regulations under the Gaming and Entertainment Control Act of 2018 <\/strong>as officials look to strengthen oversight of the country\u2019s gaming, entertainment and lottery sectors while supporting economic growth and job creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue was highlighted by Sacky Kathindi<\/strong>, Governor of the Oshikoto Region, who urged Namibia\u2019s Ministry of Environment and Tourism to adopt a more collaborative approach to regulating the sector during stakeholder consultations held in Omuthiya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe regulation of gaming, entertainment and lotteries is not merely a technical or administrative matter. It is a critical component of our socio-economic framework<\/strong>. These sectors have the potential to contribute meaningfully to economic growth, job creation<\/strong> and revenue generation,\u201d said Kathindi, according to The Namibian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the consultation took place in Oshikoto, the discussions relate to the national regulatory framework governing gaming activities across Namibia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathindi said regional authorities were ready to support initiatives that promote transparency and sustainable industry growth. He added: \u201cAs custodians of regional development and community welfare, we stand ready to support initiatives that promote transparency, accountability<\/strong> and sustainable economic activities within our region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kathindi also stressed that regulation must balance <\/strong>economic opportunity with community protection, noting that these activities must be carefully managed to safeguard communities from potential social risks, including addiction, exploitation and other unintended consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engagement focuses on regulatory amendments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The engagement focused on proposed amendments to regulations under the Gaming and Entertainment Control Act 2018, which governs Namibia\u2019s gaming industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simeon Iingwapha, Deputy Director of Gaming at the Ministry, said: \u201cOur objectives are to increase public understanding <\/strong>of our respective roles, engage stakeholders on the proposed amendments, improve operations and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials also highlighted the need to address illegal operators and strengthen responsible gambling measures across the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iingwapha added: \u201cThe main goal is to ensure the law addresses all developmental issues in the sector while supervising gaming establishments and protecting members of the public from the adverse effects of gaming. Responsible gambling<\/strong> remains at the heart of our approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities say the proposed amendments aim to modernise Namibia\u2019s gaming regulations, creating a stable and transparent industry that supports national development while minimising social harm.<\/p>\n\n\n
