It reflects the beauty of the landscapes where thoroughbreds are bred and trained, while inspiring people\u2019s creativity and celebrating what\u2019s beautiful about the countryside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual race, commonly regarded as Africa\u2019s greatest horse racing event, remains a key fixture for bookmakers, including title sponsor Hollywoodbets, due to the high betting volumes typically recorded on race day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data from the <strong>2025<\/strong> edition highlights its economic and gambling-related impact. Attendance reached <strong>40,192<\/strong>, with the race generating around R840m (\u20ac43.2m) in economic activity. The event also contributed R50m (\u20ac2.6m) in tax revenue and supported <strong>around 4,500 jobs<\/strong> across betting, hospitality and event operations. Hotel occupancy in Durban averaged 80 per cent during race week, reflecting strong inflows linked to the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the track, the 2025 race result also influenced betting payouts, as outsider <strong>The Real Prince (14-1 odds)<\/strong> defeated favourite <strong>Eight On Eighteen<\/strong>.
