Botswana.- The Gambling Authority of Botswana <\/strong>has held a responsible gambling strategic workshop with gambling operators at Masa Square Hotel<\/strong> to discuss its five-year plan<\/strong> for preventing excessive gambling and strengthening rehabilitation measures. The event supported the ongoing rollout of the Authority\u2019s 2023\u20132028 strategy<\/strong>, with a focus on aligning operators around responsible gambling and harm reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the session, the Authority emphasised its responsibility to design and implement evidence-based programmes aimed at preventing addictive gambling behaviours and strengthening support systems for those affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Operators were briefed on their regulatory obligations, such as enforcing player protection measures, promoting awareness and contributing to prevention initiatives under the wider strategy guided by the Excessive Gambling Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions also covered the value of research and the use of data to guide actions. Participants examined how regulators and operators can collaborate to identify risks, support those more likely to experience harm and maintain a gambling sector that is stable and mindful of social impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Authority noted: \u201cThe session also highlighted the importance of research, data-driven interventions and collaboration between regulators and operators to address risk factors, protect vulnerable groups and ensure a sustainable, socially responsible gambling environment in Botswana.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop supports the Authority\u2019s #MotshameokoOPhepa campaign<\/strong>, which advocates clean and responsible gambling. It is also in line with its vision of a regulated industry that benefits Botswana while ensuring player protection.<\/p>\n\n\n
