South Africa.- The Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Board (NCGLB)<\/strong>, in partnership with Desert Palace Casino<\/strong>, has concluded a five-day Punters Activation campaign<\/strong> focused on responsible gambling awareness across parts of the Northern Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign, held from March 10 to 15<\/strong> in line with Responsible<\/strong> Gambling Awareness Week<\/strong>, covered areas such as Upington, Kakamas, Keimoes and Augrabies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities began at Upington Shopping Centre<\/strong>, where the NCGLB\u2019s Education and Awareness team engaged patrons in discussions centred on understanding betting limits, recognising risky behaviour and making informed gambling decisions. Information materials and branded items were also distributed to support message retention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach continued at V-Slots and Scorebet outlets<\/strong>, with representatives providing guidance on identifying early signs of gambling addiction and outlining practical steps for maintaining control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign concluded on March 14 <\/strong>at Desert Palace Casino<\/strong>. Officials reinforced key messages on responsible play and the importance of self-regulation among bettors. The collaboration with operators added strength to the programme, reflecting a broader regulatory approach that includes industry stakeholders in awareness efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCGLB stated that similar initiatives will continue throughout the year as part of its mandate to regulate gambling activities and protect consumers. The approach aligns with national efforts led by bodies such as the National Gambling Board (NGB)<\/strong> to promote responsible gambling and monitor industry compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign comes amid data indicating that a significant share of household leisure spending in South Africa is directed towards gambling. This trend has increased the need for sustained education on financial risks and behavioural impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By maintaining community-based engagements and partnerships with licensed operators, the NCGLB aims to strengthen public awareness, improve early intervention and support safer participation in the gambling sector.<\/p>\n\n\n
