Gambling regulator appoints former British Horseracing Authority integrity official to race stewards board and oversight division ahead of April season start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Mauritius.- Mauritius\u2019 Gambling Regulatory Authority<\/strong> (GRA) has appointed British horse racing integrity <\/strong>specialist Mark Blackman<\/strong> to the Board of Race Stewards, in a move aimed at strengthening oversight of the island\u2019s racing sector and associated betting markets<\/strong> ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Blackman also joined the regulator\u2019s Horse Racing Integrity Division as part of the January 2026 appointment and brings extensive experience across racing regulation<\/strong>, including 16 years at the British Horseracing Authority<\/strong> (BHA) where he served as Raceday Integrity Team Leader, as well as 14 years as a journalist with the Racing Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMark Blackman joins the Board of Race Stewards<\/strong>,\u201d the Gambling Regulatory Authority said in a communiqu\u00e9 announcing the appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The appointment comes as Mauritius prepares for the start of its 2026 horse racing season<\/strong> on April 25 at Champ de Mars Racecourse, a period associated with wagering through licensed bookmakers <\/strong>and tote systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In his new role, Blackman will contribute to race-day oversight <\/strong>and integrity functions within the GRA\u2019s Horse Racing Integrity Division, supporting regulatory supervision<\/strong> of the sport and linked betting operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The regulator has also named Blackman as chair of the Handicapping Review Panel<\/strong>, which reviews handicap ratings and related decisions to support transparency and consistency in race outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Horse racing remains a central pillar<\/strong> of Mauritius\u2019 regulated gambling sector, with the Authority responsible for licensing operators, supervising racing activities and enforcing integrity measures across the industry.<\/p>\n\n\nRacing season oversight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
