Ethiopia.- Ethiopia<\/strong> is expanding access to its national lottery<\/strong> after the Cooperative Bank of Oromia (Coopbank) launched a digital lottery sales service through its Coopay E-birr mobile wallet<\/strong>, opening new banking and mobile payment<\/strong> channels for ticket <\/strong>purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative was introduced in partnership with the Ethiopian Lottery Service<\/strong> and TamCom Software Solutions, enabling customers to purchase lottery tickets via the Coopay E-birr platform <\/strong>or through the bank\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the launch, Abdi Fekede<\/strong>, Acting Chief Operating Officer of Coopbank, said: \u201cCustomers can now easily access<\/strong> lottery sales through Coopbank or Coopay E-birr, the country\u2019s third-largest mobile wallet with over 21 million users<\/strong> and more than Br4.8trn (\u20ac78bn) in transactions processed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new service aims to provide a secure and convenient<\/strong> way for customers to participate in lottery sales, supporting Ethiopia\u2019s broader digital transformation <\/strong>and expanding distribution channels for the country\u2019s state-run lottery as part of the Digital Ethiopia 2030<\/strong> strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch took place during the bank\u2019s Foreign Exchange Customer Awards<\/strong> Ceremony, where 63 winners received prizes including a BYD Seagull electric car, two electric bicycles and laptops. <\/p>\n\n\n
