Ghana.- Police in Ghana\u2019s Ashanti Region<\/strong> have arrested eight individuals<\/strong> on March 2<\/strong> for allegedly running street gambling games designed to defraud passersby in Kumasi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group, made up of young adults including two women, targeted individuals by drawing them into what appeared to be casual games, only to use deceptive tactics to take their money and personal belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspects have been identified as Akwasi Atakari<\/strong>, 36; Mandela Peprah<\/strong>, 31; Ernest Oduro<\/strong>, 28; Joseph Odoom<\/strong>, 31; Augustine Agyemang<\/strong>, 24; Eric Addo,<\/strong> 33; Dorcas<\/strong> Atanga<\/strong>, 22 and Agnes Baser<\/strong>, 21. They allegedly operated at Adehyeman<\/strong>, a busy area in the city, using manipulative tricks to ensure victims lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting on intelligence from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate,<\/strong> officers arrived at the scene and caught them in the act. During the arrest, authorities recovered GH\u00a215,260<\/strong> (\u20ac1,219), believed to be proceeds from the fraud. The money has been held as evidence, and the suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues. They are expected to face charges in court soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DSP Godwin Ahianyo<\/strong> of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit<\/strong> said in a statement: \u201cSuch activities are often designed to defraud and steal from unsuspecting victims.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid participating in games organised by unknown individuals in open areas.<\/p>\n\n\n
