{"id":19722,"date":"2026-03-09T06:10:51","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T09:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=19722"},"modified":"2026-04-19T08:03:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T11:03:44","slug":"ugandas-national-lottery-board-promotes-informed-gambling-with-taxi-driver-outreach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/ugandas-national-lottery-board-promotes-informed-gambling-with-taxi-driver-outreach","title":{"rendered":"Uganda\u2019s National Lottery Board promotes informed gambling with taxi driver outreach"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board engaged motorcycle taxi drivers across several communities to encourage informed and balanced participation in gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Uganda.- The <strong>National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board<\/strong> (NLGRB) recently conducted a responsible gaming <strong>awareness <\/strong>campaign among boda boda riders (motorcycle taxi drivers) in Uganda, as part of its efforts to promote informed and balanced <strong>participation <\/strong>in gambling activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>outreach<\/strong> took place at boda boda stages across <strong>Kampala<\/strong>, including Kireka, Luzira, Kinawattaka and Port Bell, where NLGRB officials engaged directly with riders and shared <strong>guidance<\/strong> on responsible gaming practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign also provided an opportunity for <strong>open discussions<\/strong>, allowing riders to ask questions, share experiences and gain a better <strong>understanding <\/strong>of responsible gaming practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the <strong>engagement<\/strong>, participants were encouraged to view gaming strictly as a form of <strong>entertainment <\/strong>rather than a source of income, while also understanding the importance of maintaining <strong>control<\/strong> over gaming activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan Hope, Senior Responsible Gaming Officer at the NLGRB, said: \u201cResponsible gaming is about <strong>balance<\/strong>. Our outreach ensures that <strong>communities<\/strong> understand both the enjoyment and the limits of gaming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Informed decision-making<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the NLGRB, community-based<strong> sensitisation<\/strong> remains a key component of its mandate to protect the <strong>public <\/strong>and foster a responsible gaming environment. Through continued engagement with different community groups, the Board aims to raise awareness, encourage <strong>informed decision-making<\/strong> and promote responsible participation in gaming activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ivan Musenero, a mental health <strong>expert<\/strong> from Butabika National Referral Hospital, said: \u201cResponsible gaming begins with awareness.
