Uganda.- Officials from the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) have reported the seizure of more than 28 illegal gaming machines during last week’s operations in western Uganda. The move is part of the regulator’s ongoing crackdown on unlicensed gambling, which has included increased inspections, confiscations and collaboration with local authorities.

In a statement on Friday, February 27, the board stated that the machines were confiscated from unlicensed premises in Kishabya-Sheema, Katerera (Rubirizi) and Kabale districts.

The NLGRB reiterated that any person or entity involved in operating, supplying or manufacturing gaming machines without a valid licence is in breach of national gaming laws. Under the Lotteries and Gaming Act, operating gambling equipment without approval may result in penalties, including fines or imprisonment, and confiscated machines are subject to legal processes that may lead to their destruction.

The regulator thanked residents for reporting the activities and encouraged them to continue alerting authorities to suspected illegal gambling operations.

The latest enforcement action aligns with the country’s broader campaign against unlicensed gambling. In recent days, the board has seized several illegal slot machines and gaming equipment and destroyed more than 400 units.
