South Africa.- The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) <\/strong>has completed a monitoring and engagement visit to North West Province<\/strong>, targeting organisations supported through HIVSA\u2019s Tshireletso Programme<\/strong>, which provides HIV prevention, care and social support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, the delegation met with two community-based organisations (CBOs) backed by lottery funding – I Am a Dreamer Foundation and Bakwena Ba Mogopa Home Based Care<\/strong>. Both provide treatment adherence support, psychosocial services and community programs for orphaned and vulnerable children, adolescents, youth and families affected by HIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NLC team reviewed programme operations and engaged with CBO leadership and staff to discuss their service delivery experiences. The commission emphasised the role of structured mentoring, capacity building, governance support and continuous technical assistance in strengthening organisational performance and service delivery at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The engagement forms part of the NLC\u2019s oversight mandate, aimed at ensuring that lottery funds are used for their intended purposes in the charitable sector. Lottery funding has supported hundreds of community-based initiatives nationally, contributing to employment and service delivery. In the 2025\/26 financial year,<\/strong> NLC-funded projects sustained or created over 1,300 jobs<\/a> and reached nearly<\/strong> 10,000 beneficiaries<\/strong> across South Africa, with a significant number of projects in North West Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its final remarks, the commission reaffirmed the importance of continued investment in local organisations responding to HIV-related social challenges and strengthening service infrastructure, noting that such support is vital for sustainable community impact.<\/p>\n\n\n
