He replaces <strong>Peter Mbugi<\/strong>, who served as acting Director General during the transition and will move to a new role within the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karimi brings <strong>nearly 20 years<\/strong> of leadership experience in gaming, telecommunications, mobile technology, payment systems and digital services to the role. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He founded <strong>Acumen Communications Limited<\/strong>, which launched the <strong>mCHEZA<\/strong> betting platform in Kenya. He has also held senior regional positions at companies such as <strong>Societe BIC and Nokia<\/strong>, overseeing teams across <strong>more than 15 African markets<\/strong> and leading business development, stakeholder engagement and IT strategy. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from <strong>Strathmore<\/strong> <strong>University<\/strong> and is an alumnus of <strong>Stellenbosch University<\/strong> in <strong>South<\/strong> <strong>Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Limo commended Karimi\u2019s track record, saying: \u201cThe Board expresses full confidence that Karimi\u2019s extensive experience, strong commercial acumen and proven ability to build and transform institutions will steer the Authority into a new era of modernisation, integrity and responsible gaming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his new position, Karimi will oversee the GRA\u2019s daily operations, develop policies and implement board strategies under the <strong>Gambling<\/strong> <strong>Control Act of 2025<\/strong>. This includes issuing licences for approved betting and gaming activities and shutting down illegal operations.
