{"id":18990,"date":"2026-02-26T12:18:33","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T15:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=18990"},"modified":"2026-04-19T08:29:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T11:29:29","slug":"nlgrb-cracks-down-on-illegal-gaming-across-kampala-metropolitan-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/nlgrb-cracks-down-on-illegal-gaming-across-kampala-metropolitan-areas","title":{"rendered":"NLGRB cracks down on illegal gaming across Kampala metropolitan areas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The operations were part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Uganda.- The <strong>National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board<\/strong> has seized <strong>12 unlicensed gaming machines <\/strong>and closed <strong>15 illegal gaming premises<\/strong> following raids across multiple Kampala Metropolitan policing (KMP) areas, including Nakulabye, Kawala, Bwaise, Namungona, Kasubi, Natete, Nalukolongo, Katwe, Kabusu and Ndeeba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulatory body confirmed that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with the <strong>Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016<\/strong>, which requires all gaming operations to be licensed and regulated. Under the Act, unlicensed gaming activities and the operation of illegal gaming devices are prohibited and subject to seizure and closure by enforcement teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The action follows <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/nlgrb-seizes-unfinished-slot-machines-in-kitintale-enforcement-raid\">similar raids in Kitintale<\/a> that led to the confiscation of seven unfinished slot machines and other illegal gaming devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Board emphasised that enforcement is necessary to protect the integrity of Uganda\u2019s gaming market and ensure operators comply with licensing, tax and consumer safety requirements.
