South Africa.- The Eastern Cape Gambling Board<\/strong> (ECGB)<\/strong> has destroyed 489 illegal gambling machines<\/strong> in Nyandeni province<\/strong>. In a statement posted on its social media platforms on Monday<\/strong>, February 23<\/strong>, the Board said the machines had been seized during enforcement actions carried out across the province. The move aligns with the Board\u2019s established procedures for disposing of unlicensed machines that do not meet South African testing or registration requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator noted that unlicensed gambling generates no tax revenue for the province and leaves players without the protections required in licensed venues. It also creates unfair competition for businesses that comply with the rules and pay their share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ECGB officials said ongoing enforcement sweeps, supported by community tip-offs, have helped contain the problem, with data from last year showing that hundreds of illegal machines were removed through similar operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Board thanked the Nyandeni Local Municipality and its law enforcement partners for their cooperation and continued support in combating illegal gambling. It also encouraged the public to report suspicious gambling activity and to play responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n
