Ithuba will invest $20m into Tanzania.

Tanzania.- Tanzania’s new national lottery operator, Ithuba, has reiterated its commitment to promoting the socio-economic development of the country through its social investment initiatives and responsible gaming practices.

According to Kelvin Koka, Ithuba Tanzania’s director, the national lottery will create jobs and support local sports programs.

He said: “The National Lottery is set to become a key driver of the country’s economic growth and social progress, particularly through the taxes and commissions generated by gaming activities.”

In May 2024, Ithuba won the contract to become Tanzania’s national lottery operator, beating 18 other rival companies.

At the time, the company announced plans to team up with Tanzania’s SF Group to invest $20m into the country.

Koka said that the funding will go into developing infrastructure, creating jobs and upgrading technology in Tanzania. “The national lottery is about creating opportunities, generating jobs and empowering people. Every ticket purchased contributes to national progress,” he added.

Before the lottery goes live later this year, Ithuba will embark on public awareness campaigns to teach Tanzanians about the lottery and how to play it responsibly.

The company has also partnered with the Gaming Board of Tanzania to ensure compliance with all gaming regulations and standards.

Ithuba prides itself on being Africa’s premier lottery operator. It currently has a lucrative licence agreement with South Africa to operate the national lottery until May 2025.
