Mauritius.- Mauritius’s 2026 horse-racing season will begin with higher stakes for competitors and stronger potential for betting markets, after the Mauritius Turf Club Jockey Club (MTCJC) announced a 30 per cent increase in prize money. The increase follows a mid-season boost in 2025, amounting to roughly 50 per cent growth in total prize money over two seasons.

The MTCJC said: “The Mauritius Turf Club has increased stakes money for the 2026 racing season by 30 per cent, rewarding owners and trainers and strengthening the overall racing industry.”

The stakes increase also includes a 10 per cent retroactive bonus on 2025 earnings, aimed at supporting owners and trainers. The increase is expected to strengthen pari-mutuel betting pools, as higher prize money encourages stronger entries and competitive fields.

The MTCJC also highlighted ongoing plans for international commingling of betting pools, which could increase liquidity and dividends for punters.

“These measures reflect our commitment to maintaining a vibrant and sustainable racing industry, which directly benefits betting operators and punters alike,” added the MTCJC.

As the 2026 season kicks off, Mauritius is reinforcing its horse-racing industry and betting markets, providing opportunities for punters, owners, trainers and wagering operators across the African continent.
