NWGB officials explained that illegal gambling operations divert funds away from provincial development, weaken the legal gambling industry and reduce government revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

South Africa.- The North West Gambling Board (NWGB)<\/strong> and the North West Liquor Board <\/strong>have launched a joint program to address illegal gambling and liquor misuse in communities. The initiative began on February 9<\/strong> at Ratheo Primary School in Bakubung, Moses Kotane Local Municipality,<\/strong> as part of preparations for the upcoming Back to Basic workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NWGB officials explained that illegal gambling operations divert funds away from provincial development, weaken the legal gambling industry and reduce government revenue. A report from the Financial Intelligence Centre estimates that the North West Province <\/strong>loses more than R10m<\/strong> (\u20ac500,000) each year due to such operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NWGB stated in its announcement: \u201cThe North West Gambling Board does not promote or condone any form of illegal gambling. Gambling should strictly be treated as a form of entertainment, based on chance and luck, and is only permitted for persons 18 years and older in regulated environments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Liquor Board contributed by highlighting the risks of underage drinking and unauthorised liquor sales. Officials stressed the need for safe spaces where children can grow without these negative influences. Both boards aim to encourage responsible choices among adults while protecting younger people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This launch follows similar initiatives by the NWGB. In January, the Board partnered with national organisations, including the National Gambling Board<\/strong> and the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation<\/strong>, to host a session at Mahikeng City College, where students were taught to identify unlicensed gambling sites and understand the risks associated with gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n
