Operators are being urged to review compliance procedures and prepare for stricter oversight under the <strong>Gambling Control Act, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8cf370e7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>The <strong>transition <\/strong>process is scheduled to be completed by February 28, 2026, with a follow-up communication to announce the official commencement of the GRA and the <strong>resumption <\/strong>of licensing activities under the new regime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this period, all new and <strong>renewal licence applications <\/strong>remain suspended. The BCLB said: \u201cThe<strong> transition<\/strong> to the GRA is a critical step towards a modern, robust and responsible <strong>regulatory framework<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Operators urged to gear up<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Legal expert <strong>Caiphas Chepkwony<\/strong> has called on operators to act immediately. \u201cOperators need to monitor official communications from the GRA for updates on the development and publication of the new <strong>regulations<\/strong>,\u201d said Chepkwony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On compliance, he added: \u201cOperators must review current compliance frameworks to align<strong> internal policies<\/strong> with the anticipated <strong>requirements<\/strong> of the Gambling Control Act, 2025. Plan ahead for potential <strong>adjustments <\/strong>to licensing and operational obligations once the GRA\u2019s new regulatory framework takes effect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operators are warned that <strong>digital <\/strong>and <strong>online gambling platforms<\/strong> in particular face heightened scrutiny, including stricter rules on player protection, financial guarantees and responsible gambling <strong>protocols <\/strong>under the reformed legal framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leadership in place<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The GRA\u2019s leadership structure is taking shape amid the transition. President <strong>William Ruto<\/strong> appointed former MP <strong>Joseph Kirui Limo <\/strong>as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the GRA, with his term effective from October 24, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Authority also opened <strong>recruitment <\/strong>for the Director General\/Chief Executive Officer role, and applications closed on February 6. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day <strong>operations<\/strong>, strategic leadership and implementing the <strong>new regulatory framework<\/strong> once the Authority becomes fully operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the less-than-three-week countdown continues, Kenya\u2019s gambling industry faces a pivotal <strong>regulatory shift<\/strong>.
