Sibaya Casino\u2019s solar plant now powers 60\u202fper cent of its operations, supporting sustainability and operational efficiency in South Africa\u2019s premier gaming destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

South Africa.- Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom<\/strong>, one of South Africa\u2019s premier gaming destinations, is nearing its first year of operation for its 2.5\u202fMWp solar plant<\/strong>, a milestone that strengthens both the casino\u2019s sustainability <\/strong>and operational reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its commissioning in April 2025, the solar project <\/strong>at Sibaya Casino – part of the Sun International group<\/strong> – supplies roughly 60 per cent of the electricity needed for the casino and its hotels. By reducing reliance on diesel generators during load\u2011shedding<\/strong>, it helps lower operational costs<\/strong> while delivering reliable power<\/strong>. The 4\u202f590 solar panels, mounted as shaded carports over the parking area, generate approximately 3.699\u202fGWh of clean energy annually, offering both power and comfort to thousands of guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sibaya Casino said: \u201cThe aim of the solar plant was for the leisure<\/strong> and hospitality complex to reduce our reliance on diesel to prevent emissions during times of load\u2011shedding, and reduce electricity consumption<\/strong> during normal periods.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The casino added: \u201cBy doing this, Sibaya not only saves money<\/strong> but also contributes towards Sun International\u2019s environmental strategy which aims to manage energy efficiently and cost\u2011effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sun International leads in green growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The solar installation is part of Sun International\u2019s broader sustainability\u2011linked <\/strong>strategy, supported by a R2.4\u202fbillion sustainability\u2011linked loan that promotes renewable energy generation across the group\u2019s properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early 2026, Sun International also appointed new executives <\/strong>to drive growth across gaming and hospitality: Mark Sergeant as Chief Operating Officer: Gaming and Nomzamo Radebe as Chief Operating Officer: Hospitality and Sales. These leadership changes reflect the group\u2019s commitment to operational excellence<\/strong> and guest\u2011focused innovation, ensuring that both casino operations and hospitality services <\/strong>continue to thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These moves complement Sun International\u2019s focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.
