Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA)<\/strong> has conducted a workshop for social media influencers on responsible gambling. Held in Gaborone<\/strong> on Friday, January 15,<\/strong> the event brought together influencers who drive online discussions in Botswana, aiming to guide them on using their platforms to encourage safe and informed betting practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Linnet Mafukidze<\/strong>, Acting Director of Responsible Gambling and Corporate Affairs, opened the workshop. She urged participants to engage fully with the material provided and to recognise the weight of their online presence, while remaining attentive and present to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lebowa Moroen<\/strong>, Communications Specialist at the Authority, delivered a presentation on the role of influencers in raising public awareness. She highlighted how influencers serve as key communicators for the organisation and can help spread accurate information about gambling risks and regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malebogo Marumoagae<\/strong> from Excellent Media led the main session, addressing practical topics such as ethical audience engagement, regulatory compliance and purposeful content creation. Discussions centred on the need for responsible communication in the gambling sector. The session emphasised that those with influence must act responsibly, using social media to promote safe and controlled gambling practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative follows comments from acting CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale<\/strong>, who stated that Authority will take tougher action against influencers and promoters of illegal gambling who have been \u201cmisleading people with false promises of wealth\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the workshop, the BGA demonstrates its proactive approach, equipping influencers with the knowledge to promote safe gambling before pursuing regulatory action against those who violate the rules.<\/p>\n\n\n
