Kenya.- Odibets<\/strong> has awarded Kenyan environmental activist Truphena\u202fMuthoni<\/strong> with KSh1m <\/strong>(\u20ac6,600) to support her conservation efforts. The betting company presented the funds after Muthoni completed a 72<\/strong>\u2011<\/strong>hour non<\/strong>\u2011<\/strong>stop<\/strong> tree\u2011hugging marathon in Nyeri County<\/strong> on\u202fDecember<\/strong> 11<\/strong>. She hugged a mugumo tree without breaks for food or water to call attention to deforestation and climate change. The attempt surpassed her own Guinness\u202fWorld\u202fRecord of\u202f48\u202fhours <\/strong>set earlier in the year and awaits official confirmation from Guinness\u202fWorld\u202fRecords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the cheque\u2019s presentation, Odibets General Manager Dedan\u202fMungai<\/strong> described Muthoni\u2019s work as a model for young Kenyans. He said: \u201cHer commitment to environmental conservation deserves recognition. This support will help her reach more people and encourage practical action for a greener Kenya.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muthoni thanked Odibets for the contribution, saying she will use the money for community tree\u2011planting events and education programmes on sustainable practices. She stated: \u201cBefore we plant millions of trees, we need millions of people who care about them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activist has gained wider recognition for her approach. President William\u202fRuto<\/strong> appointed her as an ambassador for Kenya\u2019s national goal to plant\u202f15 billion trees<\/strong>. On\u202fDecember 17<\/strong>, she met Alex\u202fLemar<\/strong>\u2011<\/strong>Koko<\/strong>, Chief Conservator of Forests, and agreed to adopt a forest for restoration work with youth groups. Mount\u202fKenya University also awarded her a full scholarship to study environmental studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
