{"id":13336,"date":"2025-11-21T11:45:29","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T14:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=13336"},"modified":"2026-04-19T11:34:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T14:34:11","slug":"nigerian-gaming-sector-meets-with-ndpc-to-discuss-data-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/nigerian-gaming-sector-meets-with-ndpc-to-discuss-data-protection","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian gaming sector meets with NDPC to discuss data protection\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The purpose of the meeting was to seek guidance on how the gaming industry can navigate data protection regulations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Nigeria.- Representatives of the <strong>Association of Nigeria Bookmakers (ANB)<\/strong> and the <strong>Nigeria Licensed Lottery Operators&#8217; Forum (NLLOF)<\/strong>, led by NLLOF Chairman <strong>Chima Onwuka<\/strong>, met with the leadership of the <strong>Nigeria Data Protection<\/strong> <strong>Commission (NDPC)<\/strong> on November 19, to discuss improved data management and protection practices in the gaming sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Onwuka said that the purpose of the meeting was to seek guidance on how the gaming industry can navigate data protection regulations, particularly in light of the recent directive requiring organisations to comply with the NDP Act.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to the NDP Act, acknowledging that complying will further improve the trust and confidence Nigerians have in their services. The delegates also requested training on data protection and privacy for their members and agents, and suggested regular annual meetings with the Commission to stay up to date on the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr Vincent Olatunji<\/strong>, National Commissioner for the NDPC, commended the delegation for their proactive approach, noting that the Commission considers data controllers and processors as valuable partners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: &#8220;Our goal is not to hinder innovation but to regulate in a manner that enhances growth and ease of doing business. With the gaming sector processing the personal data of over 60 million Nigerians each month, compliance is not only a legal requirement but a significant opportunity to strengthen operational integrity and public confidence.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olatunji also confirmed that the Commission is prepared to provide training and support to help the industry meet top data protection standards.
