Students from <strong>Ghana, Nigeria<\/strong> and <strong>Kenya<\/strong> are using game development tools to build these games, showing how gaming can drive <strong>social impact<\/strong> across the continent, as part of the Games for Change Student Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program, run in partnership with the <strong>World Food Program USA<\/strong>, targets students aged 10-18, giving them a <strong>platform<\/strong> to combine creativity, research and technology to address <strong>real-world issues<\/strong>. Students spent seven weeks<strong> researching<\/strong>, brainstorming and playtesting their games, developing both problem-solving skills and <strong>teamwork<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Games Industry Africa said: \u201cAfrica\u2019s gaming industry is one of the <strong>fastest-growing<\/strong> in the world, with a rising generation of developers, artists and storytellers eager to make their mark. Programs like Games for Change are helping bridge the gap between <strong>education<\/strong> and<strong> innovation<\/strong>, empowering students to use technology not only to play but to build and solve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hands-on gaming for social change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By using tools like <strong>Scratch <\/strong>and <strong>Unity<\/strong>, students are designing games that educate players about<strong> healthy diets<\/strong> and reducing food waste. <strong>Ecole Ronsard<\/strong> in Ghana produced a game that won the \u201cBest Outplay Hunger Game\u201d category, combining storytelling, <strong>strategy<\/strong> and educational elements to tackle hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Games Industry Africa added: \u201cOutplay Hunger\u2019 isn\u2019t just a theme, it\u2019s a metaphor for <strong>empowerment<\/strong>. It challenges students to imagine a world where <strong>technology<\/strong> nourishes both minds and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The challenge highlights the <strong>growing influence<\/strong> of African student developers, showing that with access to technology and mentorship, they can produce innovative solutions that address pressing social issues.
