Botswana.- Regulated gambling could emerge as a major engine of economic growth<\/strong> in Botswana<\/strong>, according to the Gambling Authority<\/strong> (GA). Acting CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale urged industry leaders and policymakers to \u201cthink outside the box<\/strong>\u201d and explore how casinos, betting houses and gaming platforms could contribute to jobs, innovation<\/strong> and the country\u2019s Vision 2036 goals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A GA statement titled \u2018Thinking Outside the Box \u2013 Leveraging regulated<\/strong> gaming to transform<\/strong> Botswana\u2019s Economy\u2019 highlighted the presentation, reinforcing the Authority\u2019s vision<\/strong> of gambling as a strategic economic tool<\/strong> rather than merely a form of entertainment, as discussed at the recent Botswana Mining Conference 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kemorwale said: \u201cThe global gaming and gambling industry is now valued at over $500bn<\/strong>, supporting more than 200 million jobs<\/strong> worldwide, spanning technology, tourism, hospitality, sports and entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also pointed to the sector\u2019s rapid innovation<\/strong>, from AI-driven betting platforms and immersive digital casinos to esports and virtual gaming ecosystems, which is \u201credefining economic diversification<\/strong> and sustainable growth models globally\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
