South Africa.- Vusi Mtsweni<\/strong>, Chief Executive Officer of the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER)<\/strong>, has been appointed to leadership roles in two prominent gaming regulatory groups: the African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA)<\/strong> and International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the ALGA, Mtsweni now serves on the steering committee of the CEO\u2019s Forum<\/strong>, a network connecting regulators, operators, public organisations and academics across Africa. Confirming the appointment, the ALGA noted his valuable input in shaping the legal gambling framework. In September 2025<\/strong>, Mtsweni addressed the CEO\u2019s Forum<\/a> on balancing legal and illegal gaming, emphasising proactive regulation to protect consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the international stage, the IAGR appointed Mtsweni to its Board of Trustees<\/strong> during its annual meeting in Toronto, Canada<\/strong>, on October 23, 2025<\/strong>. As Africa’s representative, he will contribute to developing global regulatory standards that protect both players and operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These roles recognise Mtsweni\u2019s success at MER, where he has led compliance system updates and championed player protection aligned with South African and international guidelines. Prior to becoming CEO, he served as the regulator\u2019s Executive Manager for enforcement and industry oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n
