Nigeria.- A new documentary on gambling addiction in Nigeria will screen privately on Thursday, October 30, 2025<\/strong>, at Alliance Fran\u00e7aise in Lagos<\/strong>. Titled Behind the Bet<\/strong>, the film is produced by the Responsible Gaming Against Addiction Foundation (RGAAF)<\/strong> and follows the story of real Nigerians who have struggled with the consequences of gambling addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Kemi Adetiba<\/strong>, the documentary includes voices from the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority<\/strong> and the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Yaba<\/strong>. It highlights the importance of responsible gambling practices and showcases tools like self-exclusion features on betting apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seun Abimbola<\/strong>, RGAAF Programme Director, says the film is a call to act: \u201cWe hear from families every week about lives changed by betting. This film listens to them and shows operators and regulators how support can stop worse harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The screening will host 150 invited guests<\/strong>, including media, community leaders and betting executives. It will also feature a panel discussion, which will focus on expanding therapy services to support those affected by gambling addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will launch RGAAF’s ‘Help One Life’ campaign<\/strong>, which seeks monthly donations of at least N1,000<\/strong> (\u20ac0.55) or $1<\/strong> (\u20ac0.92) to fund recovery sessions in West Africa. Abimbola said: \u201cEach donation pays for one counselling hour. We begin in Nigeria but want networks across the continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
