The shelter in Francistown<\/strong> will provide a safe space for survivors to “heal and rebuild their lives”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Representing Betway Cares Foundation, Michelle France-Mabiletsa<\/strong>, Country Manager, added that the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) requires a unified national effort<\/strong> and said the initiative reflects the company\u2019s commitment<\/strong> to creating a Botswana where \u201cevery person, especially women and children, can live in dignity and free from fear and violence\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n France-Mabiletsa said, according to Daily News Botswana: \u201cWe must speak frankly about a crisis that continues to steal the futures of too many Batswana. The statistics on GBV<\/strong> in our nation are not just numbers; they represent shattered lives<\/strong>, trauma and dreams unjustly deferred.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n She added that many survivors who break free from abuse often have nowhere to turn<\/strong>, a challenge the new shelter seeks to address. \u201cBetway Cares Foundation found it fit to step forward, given its mandate to empower communities<\/strong> and invest in sustainable development<\/strong>. We want this shelter to be a symbol that when darkness descends, there is a place, a community and a partner ready to headlight the way forward.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Lorato Moalusi<\/strong>, Chief Executive Officer of BGBVC, said the support marks a major step forward<\/strong> in the organisation\u2019s mission to provide refuge for survivors and strengthen the country\u2019s response to gender-based violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said: \u201cWe accept this support with deep humility, but also with great responsibility. We pledge to use it wisely, efficiently and transparently<\/strong> and ensure that every Pula contributes directly to the safety and restoration of those in need.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n The centre had long faced a shortage of safe spaces<\/strong> for survivors to heal and rebuild their lives, a gap this project aims to close, according to Moalusi. The organisation is working with local authorities to identify and secure land for the shelter and will begin construction<\/strong> as soon as a site is finalised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moalusi added: \u201cThe donation sends a clear message that survivors of violence are not alone, that their dignity matters, and that the nation refuses to accept violence as part of our society.
