{"id":10338,"date":"2025-10-13T05:31:49","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T08:31:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=10338"},"modified":"2026-04-19T13:01:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T16:01:33","slug":"women-in-gaming-webinar-leaders-break-barriers-and-drive-africas-igaming-revolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/women-in-gaming-webinar-leaders-break-barriers-and-drive-africas-igaming-revolution","title":{"rendered":"Women in Gaming webinar: Leaders break barriers and drive Africa\u2019s igaming revolution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Top women executives shared insights on mentorship, overcoming bias and leveraging digital opportunities at the \u201cWomen in Gaming\u201d webinar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Kenya.- Women across Africa\u2019s gaming and technology sectors gathered for a powerful webinar entitled \u201c<strong>Women in Gaming: Starting a Career in the iGaming Industry<\/strong>\u201d, which highlighted how women were navigating the continent\u2019s fast-growing igaming industry and forging <strong>meaningful careers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion, held on October 10, explored identifying<strong> personal strengths<\/strong>, overcoming cultural and <strong>unconscious bias<\/strong>, building networks, leveraging mentorship and <strong>embracing opportunities<\/strong> in digital transformation and AI.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/10\/women-in-igaming-Africa-900x506.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/10\/women-in-igaming-Africa-900x506.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/10\/women-in-igaming-Africa.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The session was moderated by Kenya&#8217;s <strong>Lynn Gitau<\/strong>, Director of Communications at GatherVerse, who guided the discussion and engaged the panelists throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The webinar featured <strong>leading women <\/strong>shaping the igaming sector, including <strong>Ekaterina Mayorova<\/strong> from Malta, based in Africa, Head of Region (Africa &amp; CIS) at QTech Games; <strong>Philisiwe Bhengu <\/strong>from South Africa, Founding Director of Research iGaming; and <strong>Kate Eliketa Wainaina<\/strong> from Kenya, Head of Growth and Partnerships &#8211; Africa at EuroVirtuals Limited. It also included <strong>Akinade Bukola <\/strong>from Nigeria, Group Head of Sales at Winners Golden Group, and<strong> Neha Hiralal<\/strong> from South Africa, Head of Digital at World Sports Betting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel shared insights on how women could find their footing in a male-dominated industry. Mayorova challenged women to <strong>overcome hesitation<\/strong> when pursuing roles. \u201cThere is a <strong>perception<\/strong> women when they see the job application they just see like I don&#8217;t fit the criteria so it&#8217;s not for me I&#8217;m not going to apply,\u201d she said. \u201cGo apply, you might try and you might actually be a suitable person.\u201d She also encouraged curiosity and confidence, advising: \u201cBe curious. Be open-minded and be visible and you will get to your successes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Bhengu, success begins with<strong> self-awareness<\/strong> and understanding the broader business landscape. \u201cI don&#8217;t believe that women need to focus specifically on technical skills but also like understanding the <strong>whole ecosystem <\/strong>and how the business work,\u201d she said. She urged women to <strong>identify their strengths<\/strong>, adding: \u201cFind out what is actually your niche and what you are actually really good at and then stick with that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Breaking barriers, seizing opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Wainaina reflected on <strong>cultural and unconscious barriers<\/strong> that continued to hold women back. \u201cI would say I think we have an unconscious bias as women. Culturally we have always had to<strong> prove ourselves<\/strong>,\u201d she said. Wainaina, who led<strong> growth efforts<\/strong> across multiple African markets for EuroVirtuals, also revealed that her company was <strong>expanding opportunities<\/strong> for women in the region. \u201cWe have a couple of job opportunities at Euro Virtuals- sales associate in West Africa, a sales associate in South Africa and a sales associate in LatAm,\u201d she announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiralal highlighted the growing role of <strong>digital technologies<\/strong>, including<strong> AI<\/strong>, in creating opportunities for women. \u201cThe women in gaming community has really created such a <strong>meaningful platform<\/strong> for connection, insight and growth,\u201d she said. Hiralal added: \u201cAI is really reshaping everything we do day in and day out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bukola highlighted the<strong> diversity of roles<\/strong> women could enter within gaming. \u201cWe&#8217;re virtually into almost all the gaming platform that we have available out there,\u201d she said. Bukola also emphasised visibility. \u201c<strong>Networking<\/strong> is a very essential part of getting jobs when you&#8217;re in need of them or putting yourself out there for people to know that you&#8217;re employable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion emphasised mentorship, continuous learning and <strong>seizing opportunities<\/strong>.
