The event featured studios from across Africa showcasing groundbreaking projects in<strong> gaming, animation<\/strong>, comics and <strong>extended reality (XR)<\/strong>. It highlighted that Africa is not just a consumer of technology but a hub of innovation, creativity and cultural storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oluwatosin Ogunyebi<\/strong>, Co-founder of Africacomicade, said, according to the Guardian: \u201cToday\u2019s event is the<strong> main showcase<\/strong> to get people to see what other creatives are building across Africa. We have <strong>creative studios<\/strong> from different parts of Africa here to showcase what they are making and get people to see what Africans are doing within the game, XR, animation and comic spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasised unity and visibility for the sector: \u201cIt\u2019s very important for government and ministries to see us as a unit. When there\u2019s a single body they can relate with, it helps everyone as a collective.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"235\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/10\/GAMES-NIGERIA.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10136\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Oluwatosin Ogunyebi, Co-founder of Africacomicade, showcases Africa\u2019s emerging talent in gaming, animation and XR.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ogunyebi also highlighted the<strong> educational potential of gaming<\/strong>: \u201cGaming isn\u2019t just entertainment, it\u2019s being used in education, research and training. I work in a<strong> virtual reality studio<\/strong> where we use VR to train university students and researchers. Parents need to see the value in that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event also included the <strong>Ark Pitch competition<\/strong>, providing <strong>funding<\/strong> to creative studios to improve <strong>production quality<\/strong> and help them reach international standards. Ogunyebi announced that the Gamathon will become a biennial event to give developers more time to produce fully realised projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Victor Mark-Onyegbu<\/strong>, Director of Community and Grantmaking at <strong>Africa No Filter<\/strong>, stressed the broader significance: \u201cThe<strong> future of Africa<\/strong> is in the hands of storytellers. The way you tell Africa\u2019s story determines how the rest of the world sees us.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: \u201cFor centuries, Africa has been <strong>projected as small<\/strong>, poor and chaotic. It\u2019s time to challenge that.\u201d Africa No Filter also provides tools like Bias Booster and the MAPS Campaign to help creators tell <strong>authentic stories<\/strong> without reinforcing <strong>stereotypes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The growing African gaming industry is proving that the <strong>continent\u2019s creative potential <\/strong>is limitless.
