Uganda’s NLGRB seizes 36 illegal gaming machines
The regulator said the machines were seized in Katosi, Wantoni and Kasenyi Landing Site under Operation Mashine Haramu.
Uganda.- Uganda’s gaming regulator, the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), has confiscated 36 illegal gaming machines during enforcement operations in Buikwe District as part of its ongoing campaign against unlicensed gambling activities.
The regulator said the machines were seized in Katosi, Wantoni and Kasenyi Landing Site under Operation Mashine Haramu, its enforcement initiative targeting illegal gaming operations.
The seizure follows an earlier operation that saw the NLGRB remove 102 illegal gaming machines across three districts. The regulator has intensified enforcement against illegal gambling in the past few months, recently reporting the confiscation of 4,400 illegal gaming machines during the 2025/26 financial year and court approval for the destruction of 6,749 machines to date.
According to the NLGRB, unlicensed gaming machines operate outside the country’s regulatory framework, leaving players without regulatory oversight or consumer protections.
In previous statements, the regulator said its enforcement activities are intended to promote compliance with gaming laws, protect consumers from unregulated operators and create a fair operating environment for licensed businesses.
The regulator also urged the public to play only through licensed operators and report suspected illegal gaming activities.
