Uganda gaming regulator and URA target stronger tax compliance
NLGRB hosts URA Gaming Unit delegation as officials discuss gaming regulation, tax compliance, transparency and domestic revenue mobilisation.
Uganda.- Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) hosted a delegation from the Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) Gaming Unit led by Commissioner for Domestic Taxes Denis Kugonza Kateeba for discussions on tax compliance, transparency, accountability and domestic revenue mobilisation.
The engagement, announced by the NLGRB on August 18, covered matters of mutual interest and discussions on strengthening cooperation in Uganda’s gaming sector.
The NLGRB said: “The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in gaming regulation, enhancing tax compliance, and promoting transparency and accountability within Uganda’s gaming sector.”
The regulator said such partnerships would help protect public interests while supporting sustainable sector growth and increased domestic revenue mobilisation.
The latest engagement follows earlier cooperation between the NLGRB and URA on gaming compliance. In January, the regulator’s Regulatory Compliance department and IT unit engaged the URA Gaming Unit as part of efforts to operationalise the National Central Electronic Monitoring System (NCEMS), including technical systems, data collection and sharing, and access to gaming data.
The NLGRB said NCEMS is designed to monitor gaming transactions and support compliance monitoring, enforcement and regulatory oversight. Reliable data from the system is also intended to strengthen regulatory supervision and domestic revenue mobilisation.
