Tanzania gaming operators engage revenue authority on compliance and sector development
Tanzania’s licensed gaming operators engage with TRA as the sector faces increased regulatory scrutiny and compliance demands.
Tanzania.- Tanzania’s licensed gaming operators have met with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in an engagement focused on key matters affecting the gaming industry, stakeholder collaboration and compliance.
The meeting brought together the Deputy Commissioner for Revenue at TRA, the Regional Manager – Ilala Tax Region, TRA officials, licensed gaming operators and representatives of the Tanzania Gaming Association (TGA) on August 12.
TGA said: “The engagement focused on key matters affecting the gaming industry, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, compliance, and the continued development of a transparent and sustainable gaming sector in Tanzania.”
The engagement comes as Tanzania strengthens oversight of its gaming sector. The Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) is responsible for licensing, overseeing, monitoring and regulating gaming activities, while TGA represents licensed gaming operators.
GBT reported that the gambling sector contributed TSh260.21bn (US$98.4m) to government revenue in 2024/25, up from TSh131.99bn (US$49.9m) in 2020/21, representing a 97 per cent increase. The sector has also created approximately 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.
