Gauteng Gambling Board is encouraging residents to keep reporting illegal gambling activities to the authorities to help maintain safe community spaces.

South Africa.- The Gauteng Gambling Board, in collaboration with the Yeoville Police, carried out a raid in Yeoville on October 20, 2025, that led to the seizure of six gambling machines and the arrest of six people. The operation targeted shopping outlets where illegal gambling was taking place, with some venues allowing access to individuals under 18.

The action forms part of regular joint efforts between the board’s law enforcement unit and local police to address unlicensed gambling in the province. The board noted in a statement following the raid: “Some of these machines were being accessed by underage children, who often fall victim to these unlawful gambling sites. The joint operation underscores the effectiveness of our ongoing collaboration with law enforcement in combating illegal gambling across the province.”

Authorities pointed out that patronage of illegal operations often lead to financial and personal problems. The board is encouraging residents to keep reporting illegal gambling activities to the authorities to help maintain safe community spaces. It added: “Together, we can fight illegal gambling and promote responsible gambling practices that protect our communities, especially the youth.”
