SARGF WhatsApp helpline back in action after Meta ban
The SARGF announced that its WhatsApp helpline was banned due to its link with online betting-related queries.
South Africa.- The National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP) WhatsApp helpline of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) has been restored after being previously banned by tech giant Meta.
On May 20, the SARGF announced that its WhatsApp helpline was banned due to its link with online betting-related queries, like cashing out and account management.
The foundation directed individuals seeking help for problem gambling to contact them via their toll-free counselling line (0800 006 008) or email instead. At the time, it assured the public that it was exploring alternative chat services.
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the SARGF reported that its WhatsApp helpline had been restored and is now active for individuals seeking counselling and treatment.
The organisation has extended its gratitude to members of parliament, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technologies, and gambling industry stakeholders for their swift response and support during the ban.
