SARGF expands Taking Risks Wisely campaign to Mpumalanga schools
The TRW Schools Edition places emphasis on prevention by engaging learners before they reach the legal gambling age.
South Africa.- The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation has officially launched the Taking Risks Wisely (TRW) Schools Edition in Mpumalanga, expanding its efforts to educate learners about the risks associated with gambling and other harmful behaviours.
The programme, which forms part of the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP), is designed to help young people make informed decisions and recognise the consequences of risky behaviour before it develops into more serious problems.
The foundation announced the start of the initiative in a social media post on Tuesday, July 28, saying the programme reinforces its commitment to protecting young people through gambling harm prevention while encouraging communities to play a greater role in reducing gambling-related harm.
The rollout follows a series of school awareness campaigns held across Mpumalanga in partnership with the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, the provincial Department of Education, the South African Police Service, and other stakeholders. Those sessions used classroom discussions and interactive presentations to explain the dangers of underage gambling, promote responsible decision-making and direct learners to support services where needed.
The TRW Schools Edition places similar emphasis on prevention by engaging learners before they reach the legal gambling age. The programme also encourages parents, teachers, and community leaders to help identify risky behaviour early and promote responsible choices outside the classroom.
While SARGF has not announced a schedule for the programme or identified the schools that will take part, it confirmed that representatives have started visiting educational institutions across the province.
