SA woman wins R9.7 million lotto jackpot with quick pick numbers

A bank SMS alerted her to the win, prompting her to contact Ithuba, the national lottery operator, to secure her prize.

South Africa.- A South African businesswoman has come forward to claim her R9.7 million (€483,806) lotto jackpot win, purchased for R60 (€2.99) via a banking app. Her numbers 4, 8, 36, 41, 43 and 57, with a bonus 45 were selected via quick pick and matched the winning draw on October 4, 2025.

A bank SMS alerted her to the win, prompting her to contact Ithuba, the national lottery operator, to secure her prize. The woman, who claims to be a frequent player, expressed her excitement about the win saying: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the message. My heart was racing, and I had to tell my daughter right away; it was such a happy moment.”

She said she used the quick pick option for its convenience, reflecting the feature’s increasing popularity among lottery players. With the unexpected windfall, the woman plans to travel to tranquil destinations and expand her business.

Charmaine Mabuza, Ithuba’s CEO, congratulated the winner, saying: “We’re delighted to see another life transformed by this jackpot. We wish her well in her future plans.”

In line with standard practice for lottery winners, the company provided the woman with financial planning advice and counselling to help her manage her newfound wealth.

Mabuza also revealed that 17 Division Three winners, each entitled to R9,193 (€485), were part of the same draw, and encouraged players to verify their tickets for potential unclaimed winnings.

Meanwhile, Ithuba is still looking for the winner of an unclaimed PowerBall Plus ticket worth R2,284,810 (€113,619) from a November 12, 2024, draw. If the prize remains unclaimed past the deadline of November 12, 2025, it will be forfeited and allocated to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund
