Kenya.- President William Ruto has appointed former Kipkelion East MP Joseph Kirui Limo as the chairperson of the Gambling Regulatory Authority. The appointment, which takes effect immediately, will run for three years

Limo succeeds Jane Mwikali Makau, who has held the position since her appointment in December 2022. Makau transitions to a new role as the chairperson of the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority (NWHSA), also serving a three-year term effective October 24, 2025

The leadership change marks the latest development for the Kenyan gambling regulator, following the handover of regulatory powers from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).

As the new head of the GRA, Limo will lead efforts to develop and implement policies that drive growth in the gambling industry, promote responsible gaming and protect consumers. He brings extensive leadership and policy experience to the role, having served as a member of parliament from 2017 to 2022 and gained managerial and financial expertise working in key roles at Kenyatta University and Unilever Kenya.
