NWGB partners DEDECT on school laptop donation
The handover formed part of the province’s 67 Minutes for Mandela campaign, delivered through DEDECT’s Social Tourism Programme.
South Africa.- The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has supported the donation of laptops to 18 schools across North West Province as part of the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism’s (DEDECT) Nelson Mandela Month programme.
The handover falls under the province’s 67 Minutes for Mandela campaign and was delivered through DEDECT’s Social Tourism Programme, which aims to strengthen tourism education by equipping learners and educators with digital learning resources.
The laptops were presented to schools across the province’s four district municipalities by DEDECT MEC Bitsa Lenkopane, who said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to investing in education and developing the next generation of tourism professionals.
The donation coincided with a wellbeing event for educators at Hartbeespoort Dam. During the event, Lenkopane thanked teachers for their continued dedication and encouraged them to prioritise their physical and mental health.
She also used the occasion to reinforce responsible gambling awareness, reminding communities that gambling should be enjoyed as a form of entertainment rather than regarded as a source of income.
NWGB said the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to promote responsible gambling while supporting education and community development. The board added that it will continue working with DEDECT on programmes that advance education, responsible gambling awareness and sustainable development across North West Province.
The donation is one of several initiatives the regulator has undertaken with DEDECT in recent days, following their recent support for elderly residents in Taung and participation in the launch of the Madibeng Tourism Association at Harties Harbour.
