Namibian sports bettor wins N$1.2m on 23-fold multibet
Hadula said he relied on football knowledge rather than chance when placing the bet.
Namibia.- A 26-year-old sports punter from Outapi has won more than N$1.2m (€61,000) from a N$1 (€0.05) online wager after correctly predicting 23 football match outcomes on the sports betting platform Castlebet Namibia.
Eliakim Hadula reportedly placed the multibet on Saturday at 12:27am using his mobile phone. The bet combined predictions from several major football matches involving clubs such as Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City.
The ticket required Hadula to correctly forecast 23 separate match outcomes, including results and total goals markets. Castlebet spokesperson David Agusto said the large number of selections dramatically increased the odds attached to the bet. He noted: “In this impressive case, Elifas made 23 different predictions, so the odds grew to 1,224,107/1.”
The betting company reported that Hadula’s correct predictions across the weekend fixtures triggered a payout exceeding N$1.2m (€61,000). Multibets combine several predictions into a single ticket, meaning all selections must be correct for the wager to win. Because the odds are multiplied, payouts can increase significantly even when the initial stake is small.
Hadula said he relied on football knowledge rather than chance when placing the bet. He stated: “I used my knowledge of football to make predictions, not just which teams would win but which games would have more than 2.5 goals.” He noted that he registered on the platform in 2023 after receiving a promotional free bet and had recorded smaller wins before the latest payout.
Agusto said the outcome demonstrated the analytical side of sports betting, particularly when punters study match statistics and scoring patterns. He added: “Winning a football bet with this many correct predictions shows great skill. We salute Elifas.”
Hadula travelled to Windhoek on Sunday, where the operator presented him with a winner’s cheque during a prize ceremony at a local hotel. The company also arranged a financial advisory session aimed at helping him manage the winnings responsibly. Hadula said the money would be used to complete his studies and support his future plans.
