Nairobi tailor wins KSh 20.74m SportPesa Mega Jackpot Pro
He plans to use the money to buy modern sewing machines and expand his workshop.
Kenya.- A Nairobi man, Joseph Kamau, has won KSh 20,744,582 (€137,300) in the SportPesa Mega Jackpot Pro. The 41‑year‑old tailor and businessman from Nairobi placed a KSh 99 (€0.65) stake and correctly predicted the outcomes of all 13 football matches in the Mega Jackpot Pro 13 – a smaller variant of SportPesa’s main 17‑game jackpot.
SportPesa presented Kamau with his cheque at a ceremony in Nairobi’s central business district on December 4. Kamau said he had a strong feeling a win was near after getting 11 correct predictions on two previous weekends. A colleague had joked about seeing him on television one day after learning he bet regularly.
He said: “I had a feeling that my win was coming soon. I never used to get a lot of correct predictions, but on two consecutive weekends I got up to 11 games correct. So on that Saturday, a colleague found out that I usually bet and joked that they would one day see me on TV. Little did I know that after 24 hours I would win the Mega Jackpot.”
On the winning weekend, Kamau noted that he followed the matches closely, which he does not usually do. The final game between Napoli and Roma made him especially nervous, as he had picked Napoli to win away. He said: “If the Mega Jackpot had a cash‑out option, I would have cashed out. The whole game I was just praying.” After the result came in, he received a congratulatory message from SportPesa.
Kamau runs a tailoring shop in the city and plans to use the money to buy modern sewing machines and expand his workshop. He also intends to purchase a home and take his family on vacation. He stated: “This win has come at the right time because Christmas is just around the corner. As a family, we can now go on vacation without having school‑fee pressure in January.”
He advised other players to bet responsibly and only use money they can afford to lose.
