MultiChoice SA unleashes a gaming hub bringing Africa’s stories to life
MultiChoice’s new in-app gaming hub combines African storytelling with casual play and real rewards, redefining digital entertainment across the continent.
South Africa.- In a dynamic move that redefines how African audiences engage with digital entertainment, MultiChoice has launched Arcade, a gaming hub woven directly into its MyDStv app. This platform brings the fun straight to the screen with one touch, tapping into Africa’s deep rooted love for both storytelling and mobile gaming.
MultiChoice, Sub-Saharan Africa’s top satellite television provider, has introduced Arcade, which is a fully integrated, rewards-based ecosystem. Subscribers can earn perks like BoxOffice rentals, premium subscription upgrades and tickets to exclusive events simply by playing. The games tie directly into DStv Rewards, making Arcade the first initiative of its kind in Africa’s entertainment landscape.

The launch is timed with the return of the hit historical television drama Shaka iLembe, and the flagship title, Match Challenge, is already winning hearts. Shaka iLembe is a popular South African historical drama that chronicles the life and legacy of King Shaka Zulu, who rose to prominence in the early 19th century and reshaped the Zulu Kingdom into a powerful force in southern Africa.
Interactive storytelling, Africa-style
The game is a vibrant “match three” puzzle where players align traditional African icons such as drums, shields and spears to rack up points and activate dazzling power ups.
Since launching last week, Match Challenge has attracted thousands of players, each spending an average of 41 minutes per session, with activity peaking during Shaka iLembe’s primetime slot.
“The game mechanics are straightforward yet engaging: connect three or more matching tiles, create combos, utilise special power ups and uncover new challenges,” said MultiChoice, according to the Media Online.
What sets it apart is its evolution in sync with the show. As new episodes drop, new in-game challenges unlock, offering deeper engagement and fresh layers of interactivity for fans. It is a clever fusion of drama and gaming, tailor-made for Africa’s modern viewer.
Two more titles complete the experience. Warrior’s Run and Mystery Kingdom were both created with gamification experts Red Oxygen. These games add to the story world while staying fun and easy to play.
MultiChoice South Africa’s executive head of customer value management, Shaheed Mohamed, highlighted how the new platform enhances viewer engagement.
“By merging interactive entertainment with our Rewards programme, we’re offering our members enjoyable, engaging and rewarding ways to connect with the content they cherish. Match Challenge, Warrior’s Run and Mystery Kingdom strike a perfect balance between casual gaming and the rich storytelling of this royal saga,” he said.
