Kenya regulator wins GRAF Responsible Gambling award
The recognition comes as AGOK continues to expand Chukua Control as a long-term responsible gambling initiative in Kenya.
Kenya.- The Association of Gaming Operators Kenya (AGOK) has won the Responsible Gambling Excellence – Organisation/Initiative award at the inaugural Gaming Regulators Africa Forum (GRAF) Regulatory Excellence Awards in Maputo, Mozambique. The award, presented on September 17, recognises AGOK’s Chukua Control campaign, which promotes safer gambling practices and directs Kenyan bettors towards tools designed to help them manage their gambling activity.
According to the organisers, the judging criteria included impact, leadership, innovation, sustainability, collaboration, effectiveness, measurable outcomes and contribution to Africa’s gaming sector.
AGOK said the GRAF recognition is the fourth major award for Chukua Control since its launch in May 2025, following its recognition as Safer Gambling Champion at the June 2026 Gamble Alert Responsible Gaming Awards and at the Gaming Tech Summit Africa.
The campaign was established through AGOK’s media steering committee and developed as a multi-agency initiative involving government agencies, the gambling regulator, health-sector stakeholders and player groups. Its stated objective is to improve awareness of gambling risks and encourage consumers to make informed decisions about gambling.
In a previous statement, the association’s chief executive officer, John Mutua, said Chukua Control was developed as a long-term strategy rather than a one-off awareness exercise, combining education about gambling risks with information about available protection tools.
Referring to the award as a stamp of approval, AGOK said it would build on the recognition by continuing to promote safer gambling and responsible participation across Kenya.
