IAGR webinar to spotlight Nigeria’s award-winning Safeplay gambling protection platform
Nigeria’s Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority will showcase its award-winning Safeplay self-exclusion system during an upcoming International Association of Gaming Regulators webinar.
Nigeria.- Nigeria’s Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) will showcase its award-winning Safeplay gambling self-exclusion platform during an upcoming webinar hosted by the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR), as global regulators examine new approaches to player protection and responsible gambling.
The exclusive IAGR member session, scheduled for May 21, will focus on Safeplay, Africa’s first regulator-led, multi-operator gambling self-exclusion platform, which won the 2025 IAGR Regulatory Innovation Award at the IAGR International Conference in Toronto.
The webinar is expected to feature presentations from LSLGA Chief Executive Officer Bashir Are and Safeplay Champion Faruq Hassan. Developed by the LSLGA in partnership with Responsible Gaming MENA, Safeplay allows individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from gambling activities across multiple licensed operators through a single centralised system overseen by the regulator.
Centralised player protection system
The platform is designed to ensure exclusion requests are enforced consistently across both online and land-based gambling environments, while supporting retail and digital gambling channels under a unified framework. Promoting the webinar, IAGR described Safeplay as offering “one platform, real-time verification, and consistent enforcement across online and land-based venues.”
Unlike traditional operator-managed exclusion programmes, Safeplay integrates directly with participating operators through a unified regulatory database, helping prevent excluded players from simply moving between operators.
According to IAGR, the webinar will explore how the platform was developed, the technological and regulatory considerations behind its rollout, and the lessons it may offer to other gambling regulators globally. IAGR said the speakers will “share the story behind Safeplay” during the member-exclusive session.
The webinar forms part of IAGR’s ongoing post-awards learning programme and wider knowledge-sharing efforts across the global gambling sector. The session will be free to IAGR members and recorded for later viewing.
