Guinea’s National Lottery selects 15 scholarship beneficiaries in public draw
The fourth LONAGUI scholarship programme attracted more than 1,000 applications, with 15 young Guineans selected to pursue Master’s studies.
Guinea.- Guinea’s National Lottery (LONAGUI) has selected 15 young Guineans for its scholarship programme, with the beneficiaries set to receive full funding for Master’s-level studies at higher education institutions in the country.
LONAGUI named the 15 beneficiaries at a public draw that took place in Conakry on September 18. The scholarship attracted more than 1,000 applications this year, compared with 198 when the programme launched in 2023. Candidates were screened before being interviewed by a jury. The final selection was then made through the draw.
The scholarship is part of LONAGUI’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. The lottery said the initiative is intended to support Guinean youth and provide opportunities for graduates to continue their academic careers.
Jacqueline Coker, LONAGUI’s adviser for social actions, highlighted the wider purpose of the initiative. “The true benefit of a nation is not measured solely by its financial figures. It is measured by the brilliance of its youth, the equal opportunities we create, and the doors we open,” said Coker, according to MediaGuinée.
Since its launch, the scholarship programme has supported more than 40 young people through Master’s studies, according to reports from the latest ceremony.
LONAGUI’s official eligibility criteria for the fourth edition required applicants to be Guinean nationals residing in Guinea, under 35 years old and holders of a Licence degree with at least a “Bien” grade. Applicants were also required to submit a complete application accompanied by a professional project.
The programme also incorporated measures for different applicant profiles. Reports from the ceremony said specific consideration was given to women, people with reduced mobility and candidates who had participated in previous editions.
The latest beneficiaries will pursue Master 1 and Master 2 studies, with their training fully covered through the scholarship programme. LONAGUI said the programme forms part of its longer-term commitment to education and Guinean youth.
