GrandWest Casino boosts visitor engagement with the newly opened Destino nightlife venue while planning and preparatory work continues on its 22, 000 m² retail and leisure precinct.
South Africa.- GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World in South Africa has officially opened Destino, a premium nightlife and entertainment venue, bringing a new dimension of energy and engagement to the complex, while advancing its R600m (€30m) mall expansion.
Destino is now open in a refurbished part of the Sun International GrandWest complex in Cape Town, formerly known as Hanover Street, and has been transformed into a stylish venue featuring live music, DJs, themed events and curated hospitality experiences. By completing Destino through internal refurbishment, GrandWest ensured immediate impact for visitors while the larger mall project moves through preparatory stages and is set to open by March 2027.

GrandWest’s massive retail expansion
The R600m GrandWest Mall project, a collaboration between Sun International and Flanagan & Gerard, will add 22 000 m² (236 800 ft²) of retail, dining and leisure space, moving steadily through planning, approvals and preparatory work. As of early 2026 the project remains in preparatory phases, including design finalisation, leasing and contractor appointments.
GrandWest’s approach demonstrates how land-based casinos can innovate while executing major capital projects. Opening Destino ahead of the larger mall development allows the complex to remain vibrant, attract visitors and generate revenue, even before structural work for the expansion begins.
