Emmanuel Lawson earns FIFAe Referee Certificate, marking a historic achievement for Ghana and Africa’s virtual football scene.
Ghana.- Ghana has achieved a major milestone on the African esports stage as Emmanuel Lawson became the country’s first FIFAe-licensed referee, a significant step for both Ghana and the continent’s growing virtual football scene.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the achievement in an official statement on January 12, following Lawson’s participation in the FIFAe Summit held in Saudi Arabia, from December 17 to 19.
GFA said: “The Football Association is pleased to announce that Emmanuel Lawson, eFootball Manager of the Ghana National Team, the Black Asteroids, has earned a FIFAe Referee Certificate following his participation in the FIFAe Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.”
Certified leader in esports
Lawson earned the certification after completing an intensive FIFAe coaching programme delivered online over several weeks. The programme equips participants with advanced skills in esports team management, player development, tactical planning, mental conditioning, performance analysis and professional standards required to compete at the highest international level.
GFA added: “The FIFAe Referee Certificate places Emmanuel Lawson among a select group of certified professionals qualified to support and oversee esports football competitions at the highest level.”
As the eFootball Manager of Ghana’s national esports team, the Black Asteroids, Lawson has been instrumental in shaping the team’s competitive strategy and elevating Ghana’s presence in international virtual football tournaments.
In addition to his esports responsibilities, Lawson serves as the Finance Manager at the GFA. With more than five years in the finance department, he has successfully balanced administrative leadership with his pioneering contributions to Ghanaian esports.
GFA said Lawson’s achievement strengthens Ghana’s technical capacity in eFootball governance and officiating, aligning the country with global best practices.
